Dogs experience the world through their noses, and research shows that sniffing boosts confidence, problem-solving skills, and overall well-being.

K9 Nose Work® offers scent-based enrichment for dogs of all ages, sizes, and temperaments—because every dog can sniff! Nose Work training makes searching fun, builds confidence, and provides mental stimulation without physical strain.

Whether for fun or competition, K9 Nose Work® helps your dog embrace their sniffing instincts while strengthening your bond. You'll be amazed at what their nose can do!

About Me & My Methods

Jessica Daggit, ABCDT, ANWI

Logo with text "ANWI NACSW Associate Nose Work Instructor."

My passion for dogs has been a lifelong journey. In 2013, I became a Certified Dog Trainer to deepen that love and help pet owners build stronger, more fulfilling partnerships with their dogs.

I discovered the sport of K9 Nose Work® during a class with Cindy Knowlton, CNWI, and was immediately captivated. As my admiration for the sport grew, I knew my next step was to become a Certified Nose Work Instructor (CNWI) myself.

Unlike other dog sports where we direct the dog, what I love most about K9 Nose Work is that it shifts the dynamic—handlers step back, trust their dogs, and learn to follow their lead.

By teaching this dog-driven approach, handlers develop a deeper understanding of their dogs’ unique search styles, communication through behavior, and ultimately create a more enjoyable and fulfilling experience for the dog.

In my training, I strive to make learning positive, fun and enriching for both dogs and their handlers.

Intro to K9 Nose Work®
This foundational class introduces dogs to the game of K9 Nose Work®, encouraging their desire to hunt for food and building independence. Through searching in containers and interior spaces, dogs learn to navigate airflow, explore high and low, and problem-solve with confidence. Each week, searches are gradually adjusted to match your dog’s individual level, setting them up for success. Weather permitting, exteriors are also introduced. Handlers will begin developing essential observation and leash handling skills. This course lays the groundwork for future Nose Work training and is required before moving on to Intro to Odor.

Intro to Odor
This class is for dogs who have completed Intro to K9 Nose Work® and are ready to begin working with target odors. Teams will be introduced to Birch, Anise, and Clove using food pairing to build a strong, positive association with odor. Dogs continue to develop their independent problem-solving skills as searches gradually increase in complexity across containers, interior spaces, and exterior environments. Handlers begin using external rewards and continue developing their observation and leash-handling skills to better support their dogs. This class sets the stage for balanced teamwork while maintaining the dog’s developing focus and drive for odor.

Intro to Odor Level 2
This class builds on the skills from Intro to Odor, with a primary focus on maintaining a strong positive association with odor while gradually introducing emerging teamwork. Dogs continue to work independently, but with the handler taking a more active role in reward delivery. While communication between dog and handler starts to evolve, the emphasis remains on ensuring the dog’s enthusiasm, independence, and drive for odor. Each week, searches are thoughtfully designed to support clarity, confidence, and continued progress while building a foundation for effective teamwork.

Continuing Nose Work
This class caters to dogs of varying experience levels, from just having finished Intro to Odor to dogs at upper levels. The searches are tailored to match your team's current skills. Whether you're just building foundations or refining advanced techniques, each session offers mentally stimulating searches designed to keep you and your dog engaged and progressing.

Nose Work Classes

Themed Sniff and Go events provide a fun, creative way to practice Nose Work in a NACSW trial-like setting. Storylines and props add a unique twist, making the experience both engaging and low-pressure. Each event features searches based on the 4 NACSW trial elements—containers, interiors, exteriors, and vehicles—though not all elements will be included in every event. Searches are conducted back-to-back, allowing handlers to quickly run their dogs and be on their way.

About Goomba

I am delighted to share my Nose Work journey with my Clumber Spaniel, Goomba. His enthusiasm and love for the sport keeps me eager to continue learning and enjoy every moment.

Goomba, registered name, Clussexx Red Baron, is the 12th Clumber Spaniel to earn a NACSW NW1 title.

He enjoys hiking, sniffing, sleeping but most of all loves having fun with his mom and dad whatever they choose to do.
